bagus is a constructive creative chaos: he paints, carves, designs individual batik pieces, directs performing arts groups and teaches carpentry at a polytechnic in yogyakarta.
bagus is from jepara, a town at the north coast of java known as the center for wood-carving. since young, he was exposed to the work with wood and artistic handicraft. after school, he moved to yogyakarta to study arts and craftsmanship. having nurtured his skills, he is now experimenting with motifs and carving functions, letting the tradition shine in a contemporary new light.
bagus needs space to cultivate his passions and like-minded people to surround him. and so he build a little landscape of huts and creative retreats next to a scenic river that became known as the froghouse. the huts are smoothly integrated into nature, using bamboo, wood and roofing made of traditionally woven leaves. in the center is a little wooden platform that is the space for gathering with friends. moreover it becomes a stage for independent artists and adventurers that bagus invites for intimate events. they sing, write poems together and hear stories of travelers from far away places.
